Safe fueling practices are mandatory at any 24 hour/7day unmanned commercial fueling site.
1. Turn off your vehicle while refueling. Put your vehicle in park and/or set the emergency brake, disable or turn off any auxiliary sources of ignition such as a camper or trailer heater, cooling units or pilot lights.
2. Do not smoke, light matches or lighters while refueling at the pump.
3. Remain with the vehicle at all times while refueling. DO NOT leave vehicle unattended until refueling is complete.
4. In case of a fuel spill notify a station attendant immediately. If not available, call (800)792-7199 or (434)548-5100. The customer may be subject for costs incurred for any fuel spill cleanup.
Static electricity-related incidents at gasoline outlets are extremely unusual, but the potential for them to happen appears to be the highest during cool and dry climate conditions. Motorists should not get back into their vehicles while pumping gas. It may be a temptation to get back into the vehicle when it it cold, but the average fill-up takes only two minutes, and staying outside greatly minimizes the likelihood of any static electricity buildup that could be discharged at the nozzle.
